The Protectorate is an autocratic political entity that governs 99.5% of the total population of the Qhami galaxy. The Protectorate was established 347 years after the end of the Kelnar War by Soledon, the first Primarq, following his conquest of the Qhami in the Bakásbole. The male descendants of Soledon have ruled the Protectorate for 475 years.
The Brightest Star
While Soledon and his successors are the most popular figures of Protectorate history the story of how the Protectorate came to be begins with Dasnal. Without her equation of the path of least cost, Soledon would not have had ships fast enough to carry out the Bakorle and the subsequent Bakásbole and there would have been no Protectorate.
Dasnal was admitted to Soledon’s household school–disguised as a boy by her mother–at the age of eight. She became a member of Soledon’s council when she was only fourteen years old. As a member of the council Dasnal dedicated herself to calculating a more efficient way through fold-space. Dasnal worked on the system for nine years. The result was the equation of the path of least cost, known colloquially as the Dasnal equation.
According to Eran, when Dasnal presented her work to Soledon, he exclaimed, “You truly are the brightest star in the galaxy!” Although it is widely thought that Soledon himself was only marginally literate, he immediately grasped the importance of Dasnal’s work. He ordered her to integrate her equation into the computers of each ship in his fleet, a process that took just over two years.

Soledon’s clan In order to realize his conquest of the inner Qhami, Soledon knew he would need to gather allies…and crush rivals. This bitter war between the Fringe Clans came to be known as the Bakorle. The opening act was fittingly bloody. Soledon sent operatives into the capital city of his greatest rival, XY. These operatives poisoned the water supply with a vicious waterborne bacteria. Tens of thousands died in the first quarter-season. The remaining population was sick and easily subdued by Soledon. Soledon capitalized on the success of the water attack by deploying operatives to other worlds to wage a misinformation campaign. Their tactic was to insinuate themselves into communities and spread rumors that Soledon had been given a power by the gods to smite the other clans and that they should unite with him or be destroyed. This group of operatives were the progenitors of Kitazr.
Not everyone believed in Soledon’s divine power. Several of the clans>>>
